315 Squadron
The
history of
315 squadron didn't
start on
Twenthe. The
squadron started
on 1st
juli 1952 on
airbase
Eindhoven. first
they flew with
F-84E Thunderjet. But
after 4 years they went to the F-84F/G, the
Thunderstreak. The
315 Squadron got
an offensive status,
for groundsupport.
In
this periode
the
idea
for
the lion
raised as
squadron-logo.in
1958 the 315 Squadron got the lion-logo
After 14 years flying the
Thunderstreak , the
squadron went
in mei 1970 to
airbase
Twenthe. On
these new
locatie the
squadron started
with a new
type
fighter,The
NF-5 Freedom Fighter.The
NF-5's were
build by
Northrop in Canada . The
pilots
of the 315
Squadron went
to Canada to
get theire fighters.
This
was called the
'High-Flight' operations.
This
was a big adventure because they couldn't airrefuel above the ocean,
with
landings
on
Greenland,
Iceland
and
Scotland,
The
'High-Flight' operations
were made from november 1969 ttill march 1972.
In
the 80's the 315 squadron went over to the General Dynamics F-16a. Till
April 2004
the 315 squadron flew on Twenthe airbase.In this month all activities of
the 315 squadron were cancelled. |
